Sightseeing

Along with the wonderful sandy beaches that spread along the coasts of Paros, there is a wide variety of things to do, to see and visit. No matter what your tastes are or if you are with friends or your family, Paros will certainly have something to fit your every need:

Cave of Antiparos

The Cave is one of the most beautiful attractions and located in Antiparos. It is also among the most famous and attractive caves of the world. The Cave of Antiparos offers a unique combination of natural beauty and historical importance. On the inside, the enchanting effect is created by the thousands of stalagmites and stalactites which change shape according to the angle of the viewer. On the other hand, this cave is precious because of the archaeological findings which have been discovered inside that date back to the Geometric and Classical Era. The cave has also been used as a refuge to important people such as Marquis de Nouadel. The oldest stalagmite is found to be 45 millions years old, the oldest one in Europe. 411 steps will lead you in the depths of the cave which is around 100 meters deep. The island of Antiparos is situated right next to Paros and is easy accessible daily by boat.

Walking path

Hiking lovers must follow the route to the Byzantine Road, connecting Lefkes with the traditional settlement of Prodromos. It was made in the Byzantine era, and it used to be a part of a central artery crossing the whole island connecting Paroikia with Piso Livadi. It is a pleasant route of about one and ½ hour through a virgin landscape of Paros.

Venetian Castle of Naoussa

The Castle of Naousa or Kasteli, is small but of great importance since it monitored the whole bay of Naousa. The Venetian Castle (almost sunk today) is a work made by the dynasty of Sommaripa (15th cent.) and is a peculiar fortifying work. It consists of jetties visible under the sea used as breakwaters and a wall with a round tower at its end, built on a rock.

Castle of Paroikia

Walk in the Castle of Paroikia and in Agios Konstantinos. The hill of the Medieval Castle is the heart of the settlement even from the time of its first residents (4th cent. b.C.) until today. The Castle was built by the Venetian Duke of Naxos Sanoudos (13th cent.) with architectural parts of ancient temples. Archaeological research has detected built-in parts of three archaic temples and two from the classical era. From those only a small part of the archaic temple of Athena is saved today (6th cent. b.C.) at the top of the hill. Next to the temple’s foundations a part of the first Cycladic settlement was discovered. In our walk to the Castle we find small churches, most of them built in the walls, such as Panagia tou Stavrou, Agia Anna, Agios Markos, Agios Stylianos and the architecturally magnificent temple of Agios Konstantinos, with sheltered yard and spectacular sea view, one of the most beautiful temples of the Aegean.

Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum of Paros is located in Paroikia and hosts exhibits dated back from the 6th cent. b.C. among which the Neolithic findings from the prehistoric settlement in the island Saliagkos, anaglyph of the poet Archilochos, the famous “Pario Chroniko” (marble inscription with the island’s history), the statue of Niki from Paros, the Hercules mosaic etc.

Agios Konstantinos Church

It is located in Kastro district at the top of the ancient acropolis of Paros. It was built on the ruins of an ancient temple and is a single-naved church with eight-sided dome and a built steeple. Its exterior is decorated with marble sculpture and its iconostasis is gold plated and wood curved.
